JANESVILLE- Norma Virginia Meton passed away from the presence of her five boys on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home. It would have been her mother’s 117th birthday. Norma was born to Clark Peck and Josephine (LaSage) Peck on February 6, 1922, in Redgranite, Wisconsin. After she graduated from Redgranite High School in 1939, she moved to Janesville and went to work as a switchboard operator at the Wisconsin Telephone Company on East Milwaukee Street. She later was a shift supervisor, continuing there during World War II.
On July 21, 1945, Norma married Leonard Charles Meton, also from Redgranite. They built two residences in the Fisher Addition. During the next three decades Norma worked at Oaks, kept house, raised five boys, and enjoyed a host of friends, hobbies, side jobs, and, most of all, her family. Later in life Norma worked at Borg Instruments in Delavan, Wisconsin. She enjoyed her house, large yard, and after leaving Borg, her fellow retirees. As her health began to fail her in her senior years, Norma found new hobbies and endured her challenges with courage and determination.
Norma is survived by her 5 sons: Michael (Joyce) of Montgomery, TX, Claire of Rocklin, CA, Dana of Janesville, Joel (Sue) of Machesney Park, IL, and Norlen (Kim) of Janesville; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Peck of Janesville. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lawrence Peck; her half-brother, Lyle Peck; her half-sister, Hazel Peck Swenson; and an infant granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Meton.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Steve Dean officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. TO 1:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME until the time of service.
The family would like to thank the St. Elizabeth Nursing Home, Janesville Dialysis Center, Riverview Clinic, Mercy Hospital, and HospiceCare, Inc. for their tremendous care over the past two years.
