JANESVILLE---Charles B. "Chuck" Roherty, age 80, of Janesville, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. He was born on June 26, 1927, in Janesville, the son of Daniel and Alice (Stemmer) Roherty. Chuck attended Janesville High School and received his diploma with the Class of 1948. He served in the US Navy from 1945-1947. A Janesville resident his entire life, Chuck married Carol Falter on Oct. 21, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He owned and operated Roherty's Dairy Bar from 1951 until 1967. In 1968, he opened Mr. Steak and with Carol operated the restaurant until 1989 when his son, John and daughter-in-law, Barb took over the operation. The name was changed to Roherty's Restaurant. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Chuck was active in the Blackhawk Chapter of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and served as President of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association. He and his wife, Carol were named Restaurateurs of the year in 1986. Chuck had also coached Little League, was the first president of CATS, a former president of the Chamber of Commerce and active in Wisconsin Farm Progress Days. After his retirement, he and Carol enjoyed leading several group tours to Ireland and volunteering with other various community organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; 2 sons, Patrick (Maureen) Roherty of Lahaina, HI, and John (Barb) Roherty of Janesville; 2 daughters, Kathie (John) Koebler and Sue Roherty both of Janesville; 7 grandchildren: Emilie (Troy) Janssen, Jeremy (Jill) Jensen, Alice Jensen, Dan and Kelley Koebler, Charlie and Shannon Roherty all of Janesville; 2 great grandchildren, Macy Jensen and Riley Janssen; a brother, Richard (Margaret) Roherty of Janesville; and 2 sisters-in-law, Joan Roherty of Milton and Kate Roherty of Janesville; many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Katherine Miller; and 2 brothers, Daniel Roherty Jr. and Robert Roherty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday Feb. 28, 2008, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH with Fr. John Auby officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. Memorials can be made to Rotary Gardens, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Janesville or the Rock Aqua Jays.
