Eileen Roach, age 61, died peacefully at home on December 29, 2009, of multiple myeloma. Eileen was born in Janesville on July 9, 1948, daughter of the late Vincent and Kathleen (Shea) Roach. She was graduated from Janesville High School in 1966 and from the University of Colorado in 1970. Eileen worked as an electron microscopist and biomedical imaging specialist. She was most recently a research associate at the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine in Kansas City KS. Eileen married Robert De Lisle in San Francisco CA on July 11, 1987. Together they lived in San Francisco CA and Ann Arbor MI, and moved to Kansas City MO in 1990. Eileen was an accomplished quilter, having had several quilts displayed in national shows. She nurtured a beautiful flower garden, sharing her perennials with many grateful gardeners. Eileen also enjoyed baking, reading, and sewing, and had a passion for walking and hiking and being outdoors as much as possible.
Eileen leaves behind her a legacy of nine meticulously hand-crafted quilts, one for each of her survivors, including her husband, Robert De Lisle of Kansas City MO; and 8 siblings, Gail (Michael) Skelly, of Atlantic IA; Margaret (Stephen) Myhre, of Wyoming MN; Thomas Roach, of Janesville; Edward (Sue) Roach, of Edgerton; Rita Helmeid, of Port Washington WI; Mary (James Ver Hoeve) Roach, of Madison WI; Cathy (Edward Meier) Roach-Meier, of Omaha NE; and Hannah (Michael Spoon) Roach, of Janesville. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and, earlier this year, by a cousin, Daniel Roach.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Donations can be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society, the Nature Conservancy, the Garden Center Association of Greater Kansas City, the Missouri Prairie Foundation, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, or the Sierra Club.
