JANESVILLE- Gary E. Armstrong, age 71, of Janesville, slipped away peacefully with family at his side at 5:04 p.m. on Friday, March 5th, 2010, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center in Fitchburg, WI. He was born in Pekin, IL, on May 4, 1938, the son of Paul and Mary (Zimmerle) Armstrong. He served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1959. He married Genevieve "Ginger" Parker on June 11, 1978. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2009. Gary was employed by DeVere Chemical and was also a small business owner for many years, owning both a Ben Franklin Catalog store as well as a Sears Catalog store.
He is survived by his two children, Paul (Andrea) Armstrong of Arlington Heights, IL, and Brenda Armstrong of Verona, WI; his fiance', Florence Dunbar of Madison, WI; two grandchildren, Lauren and Jack Armstrong; relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Armstrong and Mary Hoppe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 11th, 2010, at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Chaplain Neil Deupree officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and the service will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home.
